At this year’s Berliner Energietage, I had the opportunity to present our work on the SmartQuart project alongside Lisa von Wittenhorst (iPE), Tobias Beckhölter, and Rawad Hamze (EBC). We shared how close collaboration between science, industry, and municipalities is helping to create real-world spaces for energy transformation — and why public acceptance is essential to this process.

Our presentation focused on the integrated energy systems that form the technological core of SmartQuart. We discussed how these systems can be scaled to typical neighborhoods across Germany and the vital role that participation and social acceptance play in making the energy transition a success at the local level.

The ReFaTEk project was also introduced by Mirjam Sophie Mauel (iPE) and Tobias Spratte (EBC), highlighting progress on facade testing, simulation, and the development of a measurement concept for upcoming field trials.

Beyond our own presentation, it was valuable to attend talks from other practitioners. Their hands-on perspectives provided helpful context to the broader discussions. The personal conversations in and around the conference also offered thoughtful insights into the practical aspects of the energy transition and highlighted the importance of continued exchange across disciplines.

Many thanks to the organizers of the Berliner Energietage for the platform to share our research — and to everyone who joined us for the engaging and insightful exchange.
